About The Position
The Mustang Branch Manager has responsibility for branch operations at the library system's second largest facility.  The 32,000 square foot library includes a 140 seat auditorium, drive-up window service, and a dedicated space for programming. The manager provides leadership and supervision to 25 branch staff -- including professional and paraprofessional employees. 
As a member of the Library's senior management team, the manager will be a lead in the drafting and implementation of the Library's Strategic Plan, planning and development of system-wide policies and procedures, and advocating for the library in the community and within the City of Scottsdale organization.  The manager will collaborate and partner with other city departments, community organizations, and regional library agencies to achieve goals and advance the Library's mission.

Selection Process
Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview and an assessment exercise.  Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:

  • Fingerprinting
  • Criminal Background screening for the past 7 years



Education and Experience

  • A Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited university, or a Master's degree in a related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible library experience, including at least two years of supervisory responsibilities.
  • An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.



Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:

  • Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.
  • Communicate library policies and procedures and request compliance with Library Rules of Conduct.
  • Performs daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Select, train, evaluate, and supervise paraprofessional and professional staff. Identify, implement, and monitor disciplinary action when required.
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration.
  • Identify, plan and oversee projects including grants.
  • Participates in employee evaluations up to and including preparation and delivery of written performance appraisals.
