The Plains Public Library District Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, visionary, community-minded leader as its next Assistant Library Director with possibility of promotion to Library Director. The successful candidate will possess strong management and leadership skills, exhibit a clear vision and commitment to librarianship, articulate and advocate the Library’s strategic directions, provide sound fiscal management and promote collaborative relationships within the Library, town, and county organizations and within the State of Montana library community. The Assistant Director helps with the day-to-day operation of the Library, public relations, collection development and management (working with governmental accounting, mill levies, and public funds), reference, operation of the Montana State Library (MSL) Shared Catalog integrated library system, Partner sharing group, Library programs, Montanalibrary2go, and working closely with the Director and the Board of Trustees.
Plains Public Library District is located in Plains, Montana (population 1,088), but serves 4,532 patrons throughout our district. If you like to fish, hunt, backpack, or ski, this is the place for you. With the Clark Fork River right in our backyard there are plenty of opportunities in our scenic area.
The Plains Public Library aims to promote life literacy and to make available a variety of resources in various formats to its patrons. Offering a full array of information services (collection of over 16,000 print and electronic titles), the Plains Public Library District is staffed with a three quarter time Director and two part time library clerks. The annual operating budget is $173K.
