Library Director Position
The Board of Trustees of Morrill Public Library seeks an energetic, self-motivated, and innovative Library Director for a vibrant public library located in Northeast Kansas. The current director, who has worked at the library for 5 years, is leaving for a job out of state, closer to family.
The successful candidate will be a community-oriented individual who interacts with the public as a hands-on director; has proven leadership skills; has strong delegation skills; is organized; is willing to train and expand knowledge and skills of staff; has strong communication skills and is comfortable with representing the library in the community; is knowledgeable regarding current technology and its use in public libraries; has an overall understanding of current public library operations and services; has highly developed verbal and written communication skills, social skills, and adaptability; and is personable with patrons of all ages. The Director must relocate to the Hiawatha community area.
The position of our library director is unique as you are required to wear numerous hats on any given day. We need someone who is excited and enthusiastic to offer fun, interesting programs at the library, which in turn brings patrons and the community into our doors. We need someone who is organized and can run the day-to-day business of running the library: keeping the circulation desks staffed, computers working, supplies stocked, and the lights on. The director position at our library is part librarian, part community relations manager, and part business manager.

Hiawatha is a residential town about 45 miles west of St. Joseph, MO and an hour north of Topeka, KS. Our county borders Nebraska. With a population under 4,000, Hiawatha has a rural feel and strong community spirit. We are pleased to have great community support, an active Friends of the Library board and positive working relationships among staff and the Board of Trustees. Morrill Public Library is a center of activity in our town.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited school; library and administrative/management experience preferred, but not required.
